Once a dog stole a piece of meat. He was going along the side of a stream and came to a bridge. While going over the bridge, he saw his own shadow in the clear water of the stream. He thought it was another dog with a piece of meat in his mouth. Then he said to himself, "If I snatch away that piece of meat, I shall have two pieces of meat!".
Thus led by greed, he opened his mouth to snatch away the piece of meat. When he did so, the piece of meat in his mouth dropped into the water and was carried away by the stream. Having lost his own piece of meat, the dog went away with a sad heart.

No, no one had given the meat to the dog.
